HOW PROGRESSIVE, music that got us through our Hialeah and Miami Lakes years, 1984-1991. Oh, can you still smell the vinyl, the cassettes?

“Come Dancing” - The Kinks

I discovered this song in 1984 or 85 when I was glued to MTV.  I sincerely don’t remember ever doing my homework.  When I saw this video, I had no idea that the Kinks were a band that had been around since the late 60s.  The song tells a story, is tinged with nostalgia and musically is not gimmicky.  In fact, it didn’t seem particularly modern at the time it was released.  But it was just a good song.  Made me want to enter that world.

David Bowie - Ashes To Ashes (via lareinedecoeur1)

Ed, thanks for mentioning the Ashes to Ashes video.  It’s a long time since I’ve seen it so I had to dig it up.  How bizarre that one scene where he’s walking in that costume with his proto-goths attendants?  Jessica, if you are reading this, how Klaus Nomi is Bowie here??

Kate Bush Cloudbusting (via Mystwalkers)

Holy shite is that Donald Sutherland??  He was still kind of HOT.  And this viddy is very steampunk.  God, videos are shite now.

Utah Saints - Something Good (via torroida)

I have no idea if anything else they did was any good, but I loved this song because it used Kate Bush’s refrain “Oooh, I know that something good is going to happen … ” from “Cloudbusting.”  And this was also around mad Manchester time so of course I was desperate to sport dreadlocks and try dr—oops. Lu reads this—try dragon juice. In
