HOW PROGRESSIVE, music that got us through our Hialeah and Miami Lakes years, 1984-1991. Oh, can you still smell the vinyl, the cassettes?

Japan - “Gentlemen Take Polaroids” (1980)

In elementary school I was the biggest Duran Duran fan, of course.  Every article I read about DD listed the band Japan as a major influence.  But I didn’t really come across their music until I met China Blue.  They’re an elegant band, visually, sonically.  More subtle and intelligent then Duran Duran.  And Nick Rhodes totally nicked his look from lead singer David Sylvian.  So, although a few years prior to the time we’re talking about (I was 8 when this album came out), I discovered it sometime between 10th and 11th grade, so I think that counts.
