About

HOW PROGRESSIVE, music that got us through our Hialeah and Miami Lakes years, 1984-1991. Oh, can you still smell the vinyl, the cassettes?

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

friendssharingmusic:

This song immediately summons memories of my High School days.

Shut up.  I’m not old!!!

Through a quarter-century and multiple break-ups and reunions, The Cult survives still.  Unfortunately (at least, to me), they never really recaptured the sound they had in the beginning.  That, or I’m just bitterly nostalgic.

In Rip It Up and Start Again, Simon Reynolds memorably skewers a chunk of the goth scene by tracing how Southern Death Cult led to Death Cult which led to the Cult—i.e. the degeneration of goth romanticism into bloated pseudo-mysticism. That said, this song is still my favorite Gran Turismo 3 track though.
