HOW PROGRESSIVE, music that got us through our Hialeah and Miami Lakes years, 1984-1991. Oh, can you still smell the vinyl, the cassettes?

“White Horse” - Laid Back

Sometime in the mid 80s, our half-brother Armando came back from California and began living with us.  While in Cali, somewhere in L.A. County, he’d taken up break dancing.  Hardcore.  He was obsessed with it; I guess he was tired of waiting for Bruce Lee to come back.  So he’d listen to these early rap compilations with their extended mixes especially made for breaking.  I wasn’t really into a lot of it, music wise, but this is one of the tracks that stood out for me.  Laid Back were—still are—a Danish dance funk duo.  In 1990 they released a single, “Bakerman.” The video was directed by none other then fellow Dane Lars von Trier, the film director known for torturing Bjork in Dancer in the Dark.
