About

HOW PROGRESSIVE, music that got us through our Hialeah and Miami Lakes years, 1984-1991. Oh, can you still smell the vinyl, the cassettes?

“Stay Up Late” - Talking Heads

So, though I have a queue that includes Ministry and The Mission UK, I thought I would lighten the goth heavy leaning of the recent posts and talk about the Talking Heads. Of course, “Burning Down the House” via MTV, 1983, was my first exposure.  Weird, but everything I was discovering back then was weird.  This is before The Cure and friends in school introducing me to fashion and music.  This was radio, MTV and local video shows, browsing vinyl at the local record stores.  Pure serendipity.

I never actually purchased the Talking Heads in high school.  Too quirky and world music inflected for my taste.   I would find out as an adult that all their earlier stuff, Eno albums (1978-1982) were where it was at.

So, anyway, here’s a song I loved to death.  From 1985’s Little Creatures.  It’s catchy, funky and the lyrics have that strange almost dark bent that I of course appreciate. I finally got the album in 1994 …
