The Cure - “A Strange Day”
OK, so I was going to post “Stephen” from GLJ’s The Immigrant and guess what? It’s one of iTunes outdated protected files motherfuckers. So, I thought I’d stick with the gothy feel as well as Ed’s previous invocation of The Cure. Because really, they were my favorite band in high school. (Ed’s, too, if I remember right.)
So this is from Pornography, which I think I copied from Ed on my old tape-to-tape boombox. This was my first really foray into pre-Head on the Door territory. Really dark and romantic. One of my favorites. After Bloodflowers came out (an OK album—just OK) the best thing was this whole cockamamie idea Robert Smith had that it was part of a trilogy that included Pornography and Disintegration; of course this meant that that year, on tour (2000-01) they played loads of old stuff. I saw them somewhere in West Palm Beach, wore all pink and was the old lady on my row who knew all the songs. Lost my voice.
